"Sole Doctor" is a short documentary set at George's Shoe Repair, a family-owned business in Portland, Oregon that has served the community for over 60 years. George is preparing to pass the store on to his son, Joshua, a former modern dancer. Mia, Joshua's young daughter, also learns the family trade.

Directed and produced by Paula Bernstein, "Sole Doctor" marks Bernstein's directorial debut. She chronicled the experience of directing her first short film in a series of journals for Filmmaker Magazine.

"Sole Doctor" has screened at multiple film festivals, including Palm Springs ShortFest, DOC NYC, the Napa Valley Film Festival and BendFilm Festival. It was released theatrically by NEON in 2019. Watch the full film here.
